They rule the world

I was watching a TV show tonight and one of the caracters said something pretty interesting in a dialog... it was about how religions had been controlling the masses with their doctrines for centuries, and how the politicians were trying to do the same today. Mass control. That reminded me of another discussion I once had with an older lady once, who said that "the masses are so stupid that they need leadership from an elite". Of course, I didn't totaly agree, because within this poor sentence, there was so much ignorance and arrogance, that it nearly made me explode in loud laughter. But bringing both thoughts together now... hmmm... let's see :)

Organisation is like hardcore communism: on paper, it's really a neat thing. But in real life, it sucks. It sucks because it doesn't take into account very important human factors (and the chaos theory, but more of that maybe in another entry of this blog). Now, nature does alot of things very randomly. There are no two apple trees which grow the same or drop their fruits the same way. Humans are just the same... well... no... yes... err... I mean, there aren't two humans which look, think or do the same thing at the same time. This has to be very important to nature, to have made us all so different, else, we'd be just like... uh... insects, looking all the same. Fact is, we are mamals and behave like pigs... and that's fairly fine with me most of the time I guess.

But since I brought up insects, lets have a look at ants, which in my opinion, are slowly becoming the species behaving most like human beings... or the other way around in fact (oops!). Our behavior is becoming daily more and more like that of those hyper-organized little insects. Now let's not argue endlessly about if this is right or wrong (it's wrong, live with it). Let's just see why we do.

At the very beginning of mankind (which I like to call, the "Planet of the Apes"), there was the chieftain behavior. Why? Well... fairly simple... the maximum age was something like 30-35 years at that time (if you had the chance not to get squashed by a mamoth or getting eaten alive by a sabretooth tiger even sooner). So the strongest and most resistant were those who mostly got very old (they were called "elders"). They weren't the brightest, but hey! They survived that long (and had all the babes)! And therefore, they just had to know what was best for all others. If you can't make anything of this explanation, just watch Conan and Rambo 3 a couple of times and you'll get the point.

So now that we know that we're all descendants of some hyper-muscled morons, let's have a look at what happened later, because... sure! It couldn't stay this way forever. Now after awhile, those who weren't too strong (let's call them "pre-geeks") but had a bit of malicious intelligence thought that it was quite unfair that only the strong had the chicks. So some of them invented some obscure myths and legends around absolutly natural events (thunder, lightning, eclipses, tsunamis, volcanoes, burning bushes... they were pretty good at spotting pseudo-paranormal activities at that time). These were the times of the Gods. Yes! Romans, greeks, egyptians and incas... to make it short: all of those "advanced" civilizations were venerating the weather man. This was the birth of religious brainwashing. Keeping the nervous and agressive strong morons occupied by sending them against one another in the name of the gods, the pre-geeks could now do what they wanted and rule over the poor people who were just plainly scared (and get the chicks they wanted).

This lasted awhile. A long, long while. Strange enough, there was no time during which the humans were led by competent leaders. Either those were strong and stupid, or malicious, evil and selfish. This hasn't changed much today... or do you really believe that our politicians know what they do? Please... ha ha ha... no. They are totaly unable to do so for many different reasons which are: they don't live in the same environment as we do. They feel like they need to be protected from the "outside" world (that's us), so how do you expect them to understand everyday life as we all live it? They can't. Second on the list is the age... cause if there's one strange behavior we have kept for thousands of years, it's to put our faith and trust in old people... elders from whom we think that they "might" have more experience and wisdom due to their age. How stupid is that? Even though we know what senility is and worse, even though we know that these people don't give a piece of shit about what will be in ten or twenty years cause they'll be dead anyhow, and worse of all, even though we know very well that they don't have the slightest idea what the working population is going through since they have passed that part of their life a while back, we still give them the power to lead us... we're imbeciles. Really.

Ok! But now the subject was organisation and leadership... whether or not we humans need it. I'd say: yes, no and "the question is not laid out properly". Our genes tell us that we should live in small communities and have a leader... no doubts about that. But our genes, our instincts obviously don't tell us how we should choose them... or do they? Well... maybe they do. The "original" need for leadership comes from a desire for protection. But is it still valid in our times and in the current state of mankind? I mean, there is no creature out there capable of taking us out anymore... we're at the top of the food chain. So from whom shall we be protected? From ourselves? But are those in charge taking care of this? Are they capable of organising mankind to protect it from harm by its own acts? That's the question we should ask. And today, my answer would be a clean and clear: no.
