You might ask why I'm grabbing this occasion to hit this "industry of liars" between the nuts... well, yesterday I was watching the news from the Popkomm in Germany where a couple of things where said which really pissed me off to death. This Popkomm-thing is a convention, an occasion for all sharks to gather and bitch against the ones who actually pay their salaries, rents, cars and women. And as you might guess, it's again the best moment for them to point the finger at others to hide their own failures. So hear me you suckers from the industry, LISTEN TO THE FOLLOWING WORDS:
YOU ARE INCOMPETENT. YOU ARE WRONG. YOU ARE ALL LIARS AND CUPID IDIOTS.
This being said, I'll also explain why of course...
The current main (and only) arguments brought in by the music industry for the dropping sales and drawbacks in their earnings are (tataaaaa! surprise!): piracy and lack of new artists.
Well, well, well... to say that it's all wrong would be of course a shamefull lie. But poking on statistics saying that for each album sold, 3.5 copies are made (I'd like to see the looks of that 0.5 album) is plain stupidity. Statistics are what they are: numbers. Nothing concrete and not representative of the whole. Ask the german chancelor what she thinks about statistics, she'll tell you.
Fact is, the music industry is a dinosaur condemned to death. There are several reasons to this:
- Music has become a mass entertainment product, just like video games. It's not just limited to an elite as it was 50 years ago, since the prices for CD players and HIFI systems have dropped to be available for everyone (unlike 15-20 years ago). When a product reaches such a state, the prices have to be adjusted to match ALL revenues, so that anyone who has purchased something to play back has access to the media which fit in it. This is the first case of failure from the industry. They still work on a very similar scheme as they did 20 years ago. It can NOT be that the media's prices are sometimes higher than that of the playback devices! Even half of that price is nonsense! Derivating the results from the aformentionned problem, it is only fair and safe to say that an important part from the lack of sales does NOT emanate from lack of moral of the consumers, but from a poorly organised music industry which has been incapable to adapt itself to the market's demand and prices. Someone who purchases a CD player for 30 bucks (because his revenues only allow this much) still wants to be able to feed it with music. But have a look at the price of an album! I mean, this is pushing the people to become criminals!
- Economy today is highly complicated. But the roots are still the same as for a small bakery. When you spend money to buy resources to produce goods, you want the goods to be sold whatever it takes, in order to get the money for these resources back AND a nice profit to live from. Well, here we are with another total failure from our dear music industry: they spend MILLIONS to keep some overrated artists under contract, more than any sales projection would EVER spit out! And they truly expect to make some profit too. I mean, how more brainless can they be?! Especially if you consider the fact that THEY are responsible for the prices they'll have to pay someday, because of the HUGE promotion they do (investements which have to be brought in again too!) for these artists. Clearly: the music industry spends far too much and doesn't bring enough in. That's as easy as that.
- Another horrible argument often brought in by these crippled idiots, is the lack of new original artists... jesus... this one hurts. Two things about that: today, artists mostly promote themselves over the net to reach as much audience as possible, using... MP3... YES! THESE HORRIBLE THINGS WHICH YOU TRY TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE THEY WERE MADE BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF AND ARE ONLY FOR PIR@TES!!! You dumb mofos are KILLING the new artists by claiming that audio encoded and free music are systematicaly piracy. You're fucking KILLING artists by buying off portals and sites (like MP3.com) to only restrict and/or close them to shut down this - from your point of view - potential (financial) menace. You ARE responsible for the lack of spawning new artists by your intrusions in places where these very artists can slowly evolve and develop their fucking talents in peace and get a minimum of feedback. Instead of trying to eradicate what you consider a menace, you should invest time and money to enable even more artists to show off their talents... open FREE internet servers and portals for them to store and spread their music, HELP THEM (god dammit!) to expand their audience and then harvest the best of them! For fucks sake! It's so simple!
- The music industry spends MILLIONS for copy protection, for advertisement against piracy and for lawsuits of course... in our days, to push people to go crazy for something and to therefor open their wallets, you have to innovate, to come up with new technology. A new experience. So spending all these bucks into audio research to develop new means of audio experience would be the best protection. Where the fuck are 5.1 surround sound CDs? Where the shit is the new experience? In distribution? FUCK THAT! This is NO MEAN of encouraging people to invest in your products. They always want more and better. They want it faster and cheaper. Adapt your strategy to this you morons!
- Albums... great... ask anyone out there and he'll tell you that it's a compilation of 3 hits and 10 lustless space fillers. Pushing an artist to produce good music in a given time is like ordering a dolphin to learn to speak until a given deadline... It doesn't work like that. Music is still a form of Art. Good things take time to come up and you can't push inspiration. No wonder that 75% of the current music market is filled with crap, stuff which totaly lacks originality and passion. It's mechanic, structured production without any spirit. Believe it or not, but people want passion, they want emotions from the music they listen to. Giving them always the same stuff is like feeding them the same tasteless bullshit everyday. They'll soon be fed up and will go looking somewhere else. And that is EXACTLY what is currently happening.
- Last but not least, something that has been said often enough: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY SHOULD STOP TREATING EVERYONE LIKE POTENTIAL CRIMINALS. Hold back the RIAA, dissolve it if needed.
I'm really surprised about the lack of commercial capacities of such gigantic structures. I'm very upset (pissed to be honest) to buy a CD and each time having to fear that it won't play back in one of my players. I'm MEGA-PISSED to be treated like a potential criminal... and I'm outraged by the politicians who actively support this. Go back to hell.. all of you.
