The future of Mankind

I was watching an interesting program on german TV yesterday evening. It was dealing about how humans would (or will? or should?) evolve physicaly in the next few hundred years. The bottom line was: If no huge natural catastrophe occures, humans won't change much. Some "experts" were'nt totaly sharing this opinion, stating that mankind would evolve towards something looking like the "grays" (the aliens we often see in Scifi TV shows) within the next 600 years, due to the higher use of our brains (don't make me laugh) and the lesser use of our body (again, that's a very humorous sight).

It seems to me like those "experts" don't go out much.

One point which was exposed in this show, and which I'm totaly sharing, is the fact that in the future, there should be no more racial morphologic differences. I would even expect it to happen much sooner than expected, since demographic movement is much higher thanks to technology. I guess that we should leave open if this is a good or bad thing, although socialy, this should solve the racial discrimation problems we have today.

Another point I'd share if our world was perfect, would be the higher lifespan. It is expected that humans will manage to reach about 120 years and more in a near future, thanks to modern medicine. Well... in my humble opinion, this might even occure. But I can't leave it open if this is good or bad: it IS bad. Some keywords: overpopulation, famines, plagues, degeneration, aso. We are NOT made to live that long. That's a fact. So this will obviously lead to tragic outcomes like wars and social gaps even bigger than we have them today already. Our ecosystem relies on natural selection, so working against it HAS to have catastrophic outcomes. I'm not saying that we should let anyone die. That's not the point. I truly think we should go on spending time to enhance ourselves. But not without giving in somewhere. That's why I'm for global birth-controls. Yes. You read correctly. I believe the only way to save our society from decline would be to stop people from acting like irresponsible love-sick bunnies (all in the name of some pseudo-freedom and religious beliefs).

Have a look at it this way: before industrialisation, workforce was needed. Alot of it. So there was no need to be scared not to find a job. Even in rural zones, there was enough to do, since most of the harvesting and exploitation was still done manualy. And let's put in the medical argument here too: there were far more babies and children dying due to the lack of medical supply than today, not to mention the average, much lower lifespan. So this was indeed a natural thing to procreate as much as possible to ensure a constant population level/growth. None of these arguments are valid anymore. Not one of them.

Today, each year, less people are needed to cover production of goods and food. So the manual workforce, which is also the social class which generates the most births, is becoming less and less necessary. Sounds ugly and unfair to globalize the situation this much, but it's a fact which can't be denied, as sad as it may be. Even worse, this evolution contributes to the overall level of poverty in the world since only a handfull of people works for the whole lot (which you could almost call a form of "capitalistic communism"... yes, it's a paradoxon and therefor demonstrate how bad the situation has grown). Additionnaly, this social class lacks educationnal support, so only a few manage the jump from their family's original situation, to a better, professionnal situation adapted to the current needs. In a few words: there are too many idle people. And this situation HAS to stop as soon as possible (Besides, I'm not the only one to pin-point this problem as the root of all our social problems).

I always have good laughs when seeing the faces of (mostly catholic) people I discuss this with. It's like birth-control would be some kind of castration to them, which is of course nonsense. In China, where birth-control is actually (and pretty radicaly and abusively) in use, there are alot of positive aspects which can be observed. I always like to bring up the almighty argument of "child care". Since it's very hard to be able to get children, parents REALLY take care of them. Properly. There are far less abuses on children as there are here (although I totaly disagree about the way birth-control is applied there). My idea would rather be to encourage people to be sensible and responsible. Think of some tax-reliefs or money to raise the children for those who keep it below 3 children on a voluntary basis. It would make sense. And it would help efficiently (unlike the ridiculous measures our politicians come up with... which brainless idiot did ever tell them that more births would solve ANY of the social problems we are facing?! How dumb must one be to believe this?).

But to get back to the topic (although we didn't leave it completly), there are more signs which show that the human body will "evolve" to something like a big, fat, lazy hairless pig. Yep! That's where we're going to in my opinion. I like to compare our current society with the decline of the roman empire. Decadence and lust, too much leisure and self-sufficency. Degeneration if you like... the opposite of the image we fake everyday. Our way of life is condemned and I'd like to bet that our achievements will be the cause of our fall. We have missed to evolve with our technology, since it controls us more than we control it (just remember the near-panic in 1999 due to the fear of the "Y2K" bug). We have also missed to take our responsabilities in time. We always say that we are the crown of creation, but we still act like wild apes argumenting with ridiculous traditions and rules which don't apply anymore. If there's a God, he'll be pretty upset I guess. We were made to rule this planet as it's said, but we behave like irresponsible idiots... all in the name of God. Wow... he's gonna be VERY pissed I guess.

Maybe it's will be a plague (that's my first guess), maybe a war or maybe a natural catastrophe (caused by humans of course). But one thing is sure: the sun will still shine on the earth in a few hundred years, but there'll be no man or woman to see it anymore... if we go on like this.
